Effloressence

We live in a society that glorifies the positive, tip toeing awkwardly around those who embody and honor their emotions.

Pharmaceutical companies depend on your desire to suppress pain; and the pursuit of happiness like a carrot dangling in some illusory distance.

I was told once long ago that I was too comfortable in my own darkness. Perhaps that’s only because I can sense that “light floods in through the fissures causing what lives in the shadows below to fly up into consciousness.”

You would only know this about me if you too were a Soulful Warrior, “meeting your thoughts, anguish, joys, malevolence, at the door laughing, obliged by whoever arrives, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.”

It’s that stretch of the spirit we’ve long forgotten in a culture that believes us to be too delicate. How beautiful it is to allow emotions to flow oceanic, coming and going, in a body built for the sensational. How ever did we come to believe ourselves so weak?

True emotional health isn’t an unmoving, unchangeable sense of slap-happiness. It is your ability to flow and respond uniquely to each of your emotions, to dance with the marvelous, to sing with the sorrows, and to burn contracts with your despair in its time.

This is joy as I know it.

This is the exquisite merging of darkness and light, for neither exist without the other. And when you can focus yourself and “work skillfully with the village of elements and intelligences inside you,” your emotions will become your allies and your mentors.
